If I knew the car would bring me good luck, I'd look into the financial aspect.... But, e36s have a bad wrap (whether they deserve em or not) and I don't have the money, and I have a working car right now.

    Diff $ < M3 $

I'm still in the hole on the car and I'd MAYBE have enough to buy that M3 in it's stock form... As soon as something breaks, I probably couldn't afford to fix it (detailing for $$ now instead of steady paychecks). Modding it would be outta the question, track time would be outta the question, etc....

Meh, you don't want to mod it anyway. E36s don't break as much when you leave them stock.

To be fair, my car's gotten all the neglected failure items fixed at this point. E36s are awesome fun to drive, and would be great for those of you on the board who don't hate working on cars. I hate working on cars if it's not modding stuff, but I love driving the thing.

dude. E36s arent THAT bad. I wouldn't take David's situation and apply that globally. As David admitted, he hates working on cars. The rest of us don't, i don't think, anyway, and therefore there is nothing wrong with a good stock E36 M3. And no, you do not have to mod them at all to drive them on the track. E36 M3s are track ready right out of the box. Sure, it won't stay as level as a car on coilovers, but it will do better than, for example, my E30 would.
