I can’t say, but he’s very active in this space again now and you’re gonna like it. Some of the key components for the BT boards are no longer in production. The drought will be over by the end of spring.

Just a shout out to Bradnic, received my completely refurbished AMP and finally installed it today. Works like a charm, the Premium system never sounded so good. New speakers with a refurbed amp and the cantaloupe BT board is perfect!

Did you buy an amp and send it to him? I still need to come up with an amp for my stereo build. Everything else is pretty much done (lights/screen are fixed, but need to diagnose why the tape mechanism doesn't work quite right). I haven't looked that much in a while but they weren't easy to find.. I probably sold my original for $5 if I didn't just throw it away. stupid.

Been collecting tapes at Goodwill whenever I have a chance to drop by. They're stupid cheap (20 cents no matter what the tape is), so it's a pretty a fun and low risk way to collect. I just grab whatever looks interesting because even if it's terrible, it's so cheap I can just record over it later or use the case for something else. I kind of look for anything that would have likely been played in the original tape deck when the car was new.

Well kinda, I bought an amp to replace the one I had since that wasn't working that well. Then the newer one started to go, so I sent him my old one while the other one was in the car. I still have the old amp i you need it, I need to get it out of storage. Also I think I have my tape mechanism somewhere as well, but leaving for a while so I wont be able to look for it until end of August.

I'm thinking I might get something aftermarket anyway. what I really wish I had kept was my original bracket, if you have one of those!

I don't think my tape mechanism is broken (I have a different stereo than you anyway). But when I put it back together I must have missed something because when you put in a tape, it doesn't go in all the way. I took it pretty far apart to clean everything and replace the belts, so I'm thinking I got one of the springs in the wrong place or something like that.

Yea I didn't have a bracket on mine, I was able to find one years ago, glad i kept it. Brad has some I think. I would have liked to keep my tape deck it would have been cool. I do have a tape deck in the E38 I just bought that I am refurbishing, that one works, maybe I will need to find some old mix tapes lol.

                      Hey nando

I have a bracket for you and can provide you with a rebuilt amp in exchange for your core. You can certainly go aftermarket instead if you want mo powa or a passive trunk sub.
Please drop me a note bradnic at oemhifi.com if you want to move forward.

I'm probably not going to put in a sub, but maybe? is there any advantage to using the OE amp or aftermarket? I haven't had mine for a long, long time, but I don't remember it sounding great. it might have also not been working properly..

I wouldn't say the OEM setup was audiophile quality even 30 years ago - either the headunit or the amp. But the BMW SOUND SYSTEM setup sounds good when in great working order. People who want to stay completely stock can be happy with that setup, and they can add the new version of the canteloupe BT kit once it becomes available, probably end of the year.

My opinion on options in terms of upgrades, in order of priority, maintaining "OEM+"

                            1) refurb head unit if you haven't already

2a) If you want a trunk sub, replace the trunk amp with a new power amp that will support a passive or active trunk sub. this means speaker level inputs or line converters. a modern amp would also make it possible for you to tune/equalize the system properly.

2b) If you don't want a trunk sub, refurb the trunk amp

                            3) add BT once it's available again (stay tuned)

                            4) if you want to stay OEM+ consider the 5 series speaker drivers

Beyond that you're in aftermarket land for drivers, amps, sirius, carplay/aa etc., at least for now. Porsche Classic does refurb carplay/AA solutions. Why not BMW?

Have you made the harness to move from the stock amp to aftermarket for a sub?

This is the key part needed. Let me know what amp you've gone with and we can build it.
