Been collecting tapes at Goodwill whenever I have a chance to drop by. They're stupid cheap (20 cents no matter what the tape is), so it's a pretty a fun and low risk way to collect. I just grab whatever looks interesting because even if it's terrible, it's so cheap I can just record over it later or use the case for something else. I kind of look for anything that would have likely been played in the original tape deck when the car was new.

Everything else is pretty much done (lights/screen are fixed, but need to diagnose why the tape mechanism doesn't work quite right). I haven't looked that much in a while but they weren't easy to find.. I probably sold my original for $5 if I didn't just throw it away. stupid.

I'm thinking I might get something aftermarket anyway. what I really wish I had kept was my original bracket, if you have one of those!
I don't think my tape mechanism is broken (I have a different stereo than you anyway). But when I put it back together I must have missed something because when you put in a tape, it doesn't go in all the way. I took it pretty far apart to clean everything and replace the belts, so I'm thinking I got one of the springs in the wrong place or something like that.

I have a bracket for you and can provide you with a rebuilt amp in exchange for your core. You can certainly go aftermarket instead if you want mo powa or a passive trunk sub.
Please drop me a note bradnic at oemhifi.com if you want to move forward.

My opinion on options in terms of upgrades, in order of priority, maintaining "OEM+"
1) refurb head unit if you haven't already
2a) If you want a trunk sub, replace the trunk amp with a new power amp that will support a passive or active trunk sub. this means speaker level inputs or line converters. a modern amp would also make it possible for you to tune/equalize the system properly.
2b) If you don't want a trunk sub, refurb the trunk amp
3) add BT once it's available again (stay tuned)
4) if you want to stay OEM+ consider the 5 series speaker drivers
Beyond that you're in aftermarket land for drivers, amps, sirius, carplay/aa etc., at least for now. Porsche Classic does refurb carplay/AA solutions. Why not BMW?I BUY/SELL REFURBISHED CM5907s & CM5908s
