rock auto seems pretty legit.

Yes, RockAuto is a good supplier. As with any supplier of aftermarket parts, some of what they sell is garbage, and some is great. The key is that they are very clear about exactly who makes what part you're buying, so it's on you to choose correctly (not that hard).
They are often the cheapest provider and have far better parts available than the garbage the Autodrone sells.
You do have to be careful about oddball fitments, though. Their interchange catalog is not 100% perfect.2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4WD LBZ/Allison

I think the one time I ordered from them shipping took a week. For the 5% or so you might save, it's not worth having a car down that long.Originally posted by Matt-Bhey does anyone know anyone who gets upset and makes electronics?Comment

I really like Rockauto. Like others have said, you have to be careful of certain brands but if you pay attention, you'll be fine. Also, sometimes they ship parts from different warehouses which means if you order items from all different warehouses, the cost to ship can be high.
Other than that, they have great prices and a great selection. I like ordering brakes from them.Comment

Well in the last 2 weeks my brother an I ordered nearly a 1000 bucks in parts, They 1st sent him the WRONG Clutch and Fly wheel, the Clutch assembly had hunk of shirt between the diaphragm and the pressure plate. They would NOT expedite shipping of CORRECT replacement parts nor would they ship them till they received confirmation of the incorrect parts were in transit back to them, which I think is very disrespectful of the customers time. When you screw up and cost a customer time to the TUNE OF A WEEK with vehicle torn down or not usable you can and will lose customers . Thanks to this BS hes had to limp his truck around on a fried clutch for an extra week+ We have not even gotten into the side work parts for paying customers to see if those are correct yet.
Not 30 mins ago we got done messing around for about 4 hours trying to get a brand new caliper to work on my FZJ (old one still good but why have 3 new ones and leave the 1 old) that had a huge gouge in the sealing surface where the banjo bolt meets the caliper, after filing it flat and getting another set of copper crush washers and nearly twisting it off to get it to stop weeping, we find out the bleeder screw wont hold and drips even when stupid tight..... This was a damm Beck and Arnley as well
Now granted this was not R/A fault, but I have a suspicion fighting with them to get new parts shipped is going to be a bit of an adventure and I still have break into the fucking brake system yet again to put that new caliper on and I am going to have wait another week to get that.....
I dont think I am going to be dealing with Rock auto too much more after this shit, AMAZON has lots of car parts I need on there and I can order most shit I need from the dealer or Car Quest or Napa .....The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money. -Alexis de TocquevilleOriginally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.

thank you guys for the replies and inputs, Im thinking of buying parts such as thermostat and a water pump. im pretty sure with the thermostat I can go very cheap (correct me), however, I wouldn't go to them for pistons, o rings, head studs etc. etc.|OO=[||][||]=OO|

You buy by brand. They sell many brands of parts, and from that, you figure what your comfort level is.
The $13 closeout UltraRotors, for example, were good enough for the ti.
The BeckArnley vacuum sensor for the pickup was an OEM Ford part in the box.
I greatly dislike their shipping policy, though- you can end up spending a ton on
shipping a few small parts if they all come from different places.
Personally, I start at Autohaus, look at Blunt, and then take a look at RockAuto if things are looking odd.
Have returned one or 2 things to them, and had no problems.
tnow, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george gravesComment

I am currently dealing with them. It was my 1st and my last with them. I had to call about 5xs to get a good service rep. His name is Brian X201. All the other reps were a waste of time. One rep kept explaining to me where the part I recieved goes, despite the fact I told him it was not correct. I ordered a part based on the catologue discription, and it was not the correct part. It was reported to be "the front main cat." It was not, it was the cat at the back of the car. All the other reps just said, "I dunno man, go online they might give you some $$ to return it, but if I do it we wont give you a thing. I dunno, I dunno, I dunno" was the catch phrase I took from them. Brien though was very helpful, and sorted my issue out.

I've seen a people complain about them, but I've purchased tons of stuff through them over the years and never have had any bad experiences.Comment

I have had good experiences with them "if" you can pull together a whole order out of one warehouse with the brands you want.
Yes they have cheap as shit shitty brands and all the real brands, the hard part is getting all the real brands you want and hopefully they are all in the same warehouse or the shipping charges get prohibitive and I just buy it from ECS or Autohaus.
If they would stop penalizing the customer for where they store the part and somehow amortize the shipping into a reasonable number I'd have no problem with them.
They usually have lots of choices and good selections.
They also sometimes have great cheap "blowouts".
Last year, they were blowing out some E30 grills, someone posted about it on the E30 M3 SIG,,, I bought 4 sets (because race cars), I think they were around $6 each or something. Were they knock offs, yes, but for a track car, flawless.
Same with kidneys. I bought 4 knock off kidneys last year for $5 each.
Perfect for race car duty.
Thats a side benefit to them...Jimmy P.

The only thing I've ordered from them were some clearance special "euro only" brembo blank front brake rotors for $20. I didn't need them in a hurry, but they got shipped quickly and worked great. No more warped rotors means stopping is soooo much more enjoyable. I do hate their website though.sigpic

I cross shop them with AutohausAZ and FCP Euro for the quality brands I want. Rock Auto is sometimes cheaper. I've bought from them approx. 5 times and never has a problem.1992 325i Cabrio

I've used RockAuto for years. Like others have said, make sure YOU are checking the manufactures on stuff and not just going by low/high prices. Their prices on Gates Racing stuff (because Evo and Subaru) have always blown away others. Never had issues with shipping either.
It's also hilariously cheap fixing cheap cars and using their junk economy parts. Did a HG on our shop Geo Tracker and it was $8. Four years and still going strong.Comment
