S1 325 vert semi rescue? Potential mid life crisis era

My last few cars have been short term ownership. Finding something that needs a bit of love, fixing it, moving it on to another owner. First was a '87 Toyota MR2, AW11 chassis, that was a delightful little unit saved from gathering dust in an old guy's collection. After that was a E39 530, 420G converted, bit of this and that, neglected by a complete moron who shouldn't work on cars. I sold that and was then looking around, and found this little sweetheart on a little-used sale website. '90 325 auto, 104,000km on the dash, second owner. Didn't run, a bit neglected, but basically rust free and really good bones.

Picture from the ad, featuring a real estate sign with an address. I guess they didn't care about it being stolen?

Trailered it home. Little dent on the front guard but the paint is still good, so hopefully a PDR guy can remove.

Gave it a solid wash (I'm not a detailer by any stretch)

Pinch rails are immaculate and not bent at the jacking points which is the first time I've seen one like that

On first look I saw a little fuel leak. Seems they were the original lines still, impressive lifespan.

Interior is mid. Cracked dash, seats need some help, roof is fucked. You'll have that on the big jobs

Overall it's a solid contender. The important bits are good. I made it run (it didn't) by overdosing it on some injector cleaner and replacing the FPR vac line.
It's my first early model and first convertible. I had a M20 parts car before but all I did was pull the motor out so this is all new ground for me.

I'll do the timing belt, because that's an unknown, and either fit a new roof or just pay the man to fit a new roof. Once I've had my fun for a few months, it'll be off to a new owner to be enjoyed.

Looks like a solid car! Scrub the interior and you'll have a nice little cruiser for the upcoming summer months!

Can you get away with just replacing the rear window? They sell kits for both the zip-in and sew-in versions. It's a little time consuming, but way cheaper than having to replace the whole top.

Nah the whole roof is properly cooked. Can see daylight through the fabric, inside layer is hanging down, its a debacle. These cars in nice condition here are worth a fair bit of money so it's worth spending extra to do it right

Fair enough, some future owner will be happy that it's been fixed properly! It'll be cool to see this brought back to life.
