Are you going to get this little monster dyno'd after it's done? I'd be super keen to see some numbers...Leave a comment:

Disappointing day 3 today.
Figured out pretty early on that reusing the cut up heater core hoses won't be good enough. I don't want a mess of clamps and joints bunched up at the back of the engine and space is already limited enough as it is. Ordered new, unmolested hoses that will HOPEFULLY early tomorrow morning, but it's Jan 30th and Friday so who knows. Unfortunately it's limiting the progress I can make on assembling the intake manifolds and throttle linkages as the more I put on, the harder it will be to access that area.
Finished assembling the timing covers and front, installed the rest of the coolant hoses, fixed my blower motor and played around a bit with placement and plumbing of the oil catch can.
Pulled the dipstick in closer to clear the air box:

More things attached to the engine:

I've blown my optimistic 3 day goal, still have a couple free days remaining but I'm realizing the little things are going to push the schedule out into the new year.
Still on the list:
- Finish cooling system
- Install fuel rail
- Figure out all of the vacuum lines
- Install oil catch can
- Install throttle linkage
- Install air box and figure out a filterLeave a comment:

It's a 74 911S, he's restoring it to look like a 1974 Carrera with a few personal changes.
I have the older style IE adjustable gear but took it off last time I had the head apart, I never really used it as intended and got spooked by a story of one slipping. It looks like they carry a better one now though... easy enough to change out in the future if I'm looking to tweak things. I was always under the impression the main advantage would be shifting the power band slightly, are there any other benefits? Going to grab a set of the 7131 plugs as well, hopefully by tomorrow. Thanks for the tip.
Anyhow on to Day 2.
Started off with more head and block cleaning and reinstalling the head.

Changed the timing belt, got distracted and forgot to replace the water pump I have sitting on the bench... guess I'll do that tomorrow. Installed exhaust manifolds and cleaned more.

Now onto the fun part

First problem is the hoses at the heater core. Apparently this is an old 80's recall, they installed a bypass valve to prevent overheating. Unfortunately it's completely in the way... need to section out the hoses or find new ones that aren't modified like this.

But with those temporarily removed I test fitted all 6 runners. Fitment was very tight against the firewall, pretty much no way to keep those nice harness covers with the airbox. I'd like to try stuffing the main rear harness behind/below the head (should have done it while it was off, hindsight 20/20) so that it sits almost on the bellhousing. Would need to lower the engine to make enough room to slip it down. I'm still debating it at this point, and I'm not even sure if that'll work as the harness is not very flexible and it may be too close to the exhaust down there.

Went one step further at the end of the night and loosely test fitted the airbox with the harness bracket removed. Still need to bend the dipstick out of the way so it can sit flush. Sadly it doesn't look like there's any chance a strut brace will fit over the box... at this point I'm not convinced the hood will even fit haha.

Tomorrow will involve reassembling the cooling system and ignition, installing the fuel rail and injectors, trying to sort out the heater core hoses and hopefully starting on the throttle linkage.Last edited by Raxe; 12-28-2016, 09:57 PM.Leave a comment:

My friend has a beast 930 with 450whp that he does track day events in, is that a 911 or 930? The values on those have skyrocketed, and are really cool cars.Leave a comment:

Thanks, they're BBS RS003 on 205/50R16 all around.
Unfortunately no, I never had mine tested, but someone I know with nearly identical internals ran a conservative 215whp.
Day 1:
Long day today, started with removing everything attached to the head. The headers are a pain to work around and unfortunately it took a long time to get everything loose.

Tore down the head and reassembled with the Schrick 288, Metric Mechanic rockers and VAC spring retainers.

Cleaned up and set the valve adjustment, tomorrow involves some more block cleaning before the head goes back on and things get reassembled. I'm hoping I can start on the intake, but I really have no idea what I'm going to do with the catch can at this point and I know I should figure that out while there still a lot of room to work.

Bonus picture of my fathers 911 he's working on at the same time
