My bad, you guys are correct. I wanted a Defender ever since I drove one back in Namibia. Lucky for me, the prices have dropped since I re-discovered the itch.

The one I chanced upon here in Mizzou looks like the one LateFan posted. Very original condition, complete with all the bells and whistles. Cool looking ride. Current owner has had her nearly 30 years(?). He owns the largest limousine and rental service vehicle co. here in town. The truck has been well-taken care of. I'm was originally struck in awe by how well preserved the vehicle was for its age.

I'm trying to determine a good price point without getting hosed. Needless to say, you don't find many of these machines coming up for sale. I don't have any pics, but I'll try to get some.

I may have done this before, haha.
Hmm....I'll look into it. Thankfully it hasn't bee too hot here lately, windows up has been preferred.

Now I think I have a whine in my rear diff. Only makes the noise when I'm giving it gas. Coasting, no noise. FML.

I've got a rolling Disco 1 frame, so I'll probably just yank the whole axle from under it.

I can't figure out if it's my TC making the noise though. Sometimes it sounds like I can hear the chain in there. Then I get this whine around +/- 40mph. When I'm deceling, nothing, unless I give it a bit of gas, then it's back.

Yeah, I don't know all my driveline noises. But when he backed off the gas, it sounded like a big knobby tire rubbing hard on a metal fender. With a stethoscope on the rear end and turning one wheel, it's a strong tap-tap-tap-tap noise from inside the case. Fussing with the driveshaft joints, I can visually see movement of the end of the pinion shaft, like it's flopping around.

Let's hope this used one isn't a piece of crap.

PS - our 87 RRC whined like crazy - the whole driveline, especially the TC.

                    87 would be LT230, right?

I've got one to swap replace the Borg Warner TC I have now. Waiting on time to do it. I want to do my body lift at the same time, so I figured I'd lift the body entirely off the frame, do the TC, then re-install the body, after repairing rust, on top of the risers.

Anyone have the fun of replacing the o ring for the oil pressure relief valve yet? I'm having trouble getting the bastard back into place.
