No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.
I had two appointments in Denver today with a three hour brake between them. I hit the Pull and Pay off Peoria, then off 76 to pick up some E21 sliders. Incidentally, there is a good condition blue houndstooth interior (comfort seats) at the Peoria yard. The driver's seat was in great condition, no tears or rips.
Unfortunately my seats only came with one set of sliders and the stock E21 sliders don't mate to the E21 Recaro's without the Recaro bottom part. I was able to adapt a stock slider to the short Recaro one and get one seat it. I chose the passenger seat because it didn't need any work.
Here it is getting an air compressor, vacuum, and Febreeze bath.
Then I sat for a moment and pondered life.
Frostbite quickly set in so I got back to work. I had a couple Walen Z3 seat bushings left over and they worked great as spacers to adapt the E21 hardware to my floor.
I used the my old seat belt buckle and I actually think it looks cleaner with the recline knob being tucked away in the center.
The seat actually cleaned up nicely. The discoloration in the photo is from my interior light. There is a faint scratch on the bottom cushion.
Then after all that work I took it for a spin. The cloth is awesome and the support it better than my Z3M seats. The only problem is the back bolsters are actually too thick. I've got slightly broad shoulders and it doesn't quite fit my back right. I've got a six day work block coming up with plenty of commuting to decide if they are for me.
if you don't like them, i'll trade you my cloth sport seats!!
looks great by the way!! And there is nothing like a little contemplation on the meaning of life in an E21 Recaro on a driveway at night in the cold...
