My brother's car had a similar issue and it was the o2 sensor, and it never threw a CEL.

All my instincts point to distributor cap/rotor/coils or maybe o2.

I think it pay be part # M20B25, that could be giving you these issues. I'd recommend upgrading to # M50B25 or higher.

The tires that came on them were undersized so that is why it looks goofy.

Well I got greedy and thought I could make one more round trip to work. It died 1 mile into my drive home. Was doing 65 in 5th gear when the engine stalled and the tach dropped to 500rpm when I know my engine speed was well above that. I'm thinking some kind of timing input. I'm going to start by checking distributor, coil, then replace crank position sensor swap
out my ECU and O2 sensor.

It's the first time I've had a vehicle leave me stranded in years!

Sorry I couldn't have been more help, the fresh powder went to my head.

Test out the sensors with a multimeter before you go buying new ones, unless of course you want to buy new ones...

Dude fresh pow is way more important! I tested the crank sensor and it's showing pretty close to 540 Ohms per Bentley (5.38 on my multimeter - I'm asuuming th scale is = to 538). Going to continue dig into the coil, cap, and rotor tomorrow. Also going pick up my new seats :-)

Weird, I just had my first stranding experience ever today. But it wasn't too bad, got her fixed and back on the road within an hour.

Sorry man I don't have one. I've got spark plugs if you need them...

I figured out my issue. The Crank Position Sensor has a plastic shield that it and a couple other wires run through to protect it from the belts. That was missing on mine and the previous owner had zip tied it out of the way. The zip tie must have broke and the belt had worn through the wire.

Clark hooked me up with a new CPS and I rigged it until I can get a new plastic shield.

Also picked up my new E21 recaros!

The tear on the driver's side isn't all the way through. I'm going to clean them and try to have it patched professionally. Then fab up a way to mount them on E30 sliders so I get more adjustability and only one tap to pull to slide.
