Is this where we start the OBD1 vs OBD2 argument?

There is no argument. OBD2 is better but OBD1 is easier/cheaper

Yeah. But it's just more shit to delete when swapping [emoji24]

Not really. Biggest difference is running OBD1 ECU out of the box vs obd2 needing to be flashed. Its worth it, if you can afford it

Well I've only done s50 in an e30. But I've converted an s52 to obd1 for an e36. So I'm kinda bias [emoji39]

Being bias is basically being close minded, coolest thing about OBD2 is the ability to get real engine codes and live readouts to a smartphone via bluetooth, but here are other reasons OBD2 > OBD1

-Running your M52/S52 OBD1 does NOT make more power.
                      -Its not really easier
-If youre having someone like me do the wiring its no different to you
-You can still run a M50 manifold with OBD2
-You DONT have to mess with EWS at all, it is easily flashed out of an ECU
-Custom Tunes are just as available for OBD2 as they are for OBD1
-Secondary air pump and Evap stuff can also be flashed out of the ECU.

                      Gains with OBD2:
-Ability to reuse the sensors/harness/ecu that you most likely got with your engine
-Smarter/Better ECU that allows you to troubleshoot small issues alot better than an OBD1 ECU would
-Ability to pull live data just like you could off any other OBD2 car, data like codes, current engine temp, vehicle speed signal, short and long term O2 adaptations, etc.
-Generally better/cleaner running engine because of the smarter ECU=more power

People ask me why I haven't done an m50 intake on m3. Sorta the same reason. Loss of power vs torqe. And loss of abilty for codes and such. Obd2 intake looks puny but works fine

Well the big reason I went s50 was because they are much less common and you don't hear about it as much.
But having the readout with a scan tool would be nice lol
