Thats great that you have a solution that allows you both to be with your kid, especially at the young age. My wife and I both have to work and put our first kid in daycare when she wasnt even 1 yet, and we have another one on the way so thats 2x the cost of daycare. The grandmas arent close so we have to manage everything on our own 99% of the time. Date nights are quarterly LOL... Luckily I just found a better paying job going back to my old company working for a COO who has my best interest at heart. They will fully support the work like balance and its closer to home.

Congrats on Baby Northern turning 1 and congrats to the two of you for keeping her alive that long! LOL The first birthday is more for the parents than the kid... YOU DID IT!

BTW Wait a few more years when she starts talking shit and imitating you and (especially) your wifes shenanigans. I've been making little videos each year, but now that shes way more active Im going to make like 5 minute videos of her shenanigans. Its on YouTube but its private so my family can see it and later she can see what a wild kid she was... The Tuman Show Part 2...

    Good Times.

We waited a long time and overall I'm happy I waited. Wife and I have been together for something like 15 years now, had our house for 11, married for a bit less.
Just stuff never lined up - shitty job, back to school, wife's work, wanted a garage, house was a disaster, etc.

On the other hand, a few family members passed away before she was born, so they didn't get to meet her.
And in the back of my mind, I know that these years we spent not having a kid, equates to years that she won't have with us later on. So yeah, a bit dark, but can't change that now.

and Simon if you want to pay a million dollars in shipping I have some crusty 2.5 cranks lol

I would like a kid one day. I crave that feeling too. Like no matter what, that kid's life is just the most important thing.

I still have dreams to turn the busted SSR wheel into an end table for the garage. I would love to have a busted inline6 crank, but so far nobody in the SoCal thread here has offered one up... Might need to start annoying shops that might have one laying around...

I have an old 924 flywheel that I plan to use as a base (cant even remember what stupid pipe dream brought that into my possession). Then just have to get a nice ~16-18" round glass as a topper. bada bing bada boom, end table right?

    ... right? lol

hahaha I was trying to understand how this could possibly be connected to *that* welding table.
    Makes much more sense now.

I get the stacked up projects. Seems to get worse every year. House things have been taking what little free time I have this year, finishing the garage hasn't really happened, and the cars sit.

Otherwise I spend a lot of time with my little one, intentionally and because wife works when I don't, and childcare is fucked here.

Could this have changed now that you're in a single family residence?

Oh, no, the wind protection for my outdoor welding table is now adequate enough to slow down most breezes. What I'm referring to above is an art project, in which I'm building a functional-sculpture that is a table with moving parts. The table aspect is not the most practical, being about counter height, and a round glass surface to top it off. You could put like.. picture frames or a flower pot in it. Whatever the wife wants to justify having a metal monstrosity in the house. She's definitely not going to appreciate the amount of dust it will collect lol

Right now I'm still in the middle of fabricating an exhaust for my car (I'm selling my original one and building a better version for myself). During the summer when it was too hot outside, that's when I was holed up in my room designing the thing you saw. When the exhaust is done, I have another paid project to take on, and then next month begins the holiday season for me with a few birthdays to celebrate, and then actual holidays and a trip to Texas. The art project likely won't get worked on until next year. This assumes my car doesn't keep breaking (last week I had to replace a brake hard line).

I've always wanted a pet, but my wife has always veto'd the idea. She even prefers cats and I find them little troublemakers so I would want a pair. Alas, another day...

Thank you, no offense taken earlier. I aim to be responsible with my pets. We provide them the best home we can, so that they stay close and don't f*** around in other people's yards. There's no way we could keep them as indoor cats, they'd go insane. And no matter how many scratching posts we have, they still prefer the couch lol.
Initially, when the new batch of cats were kittens (there were 3 main batches), I did post on social media about the situation, and if anyone I knew would be able to take any, I'd appreciate it. Only 2 were taken, and the longer we had the rest, the harder it was to let any more go. 2 more did go to a shelter. What makes it tough is like, you want to make sure they go to a good home, but you'll just never know what kind of home they'll end up in. And I hate to single any of them out; they should go in pairs, because cats are social creatures too. But some people are weird about that, I don't know why. 2 cats really isn't more trouble if you are already getting one, so let them have a friend.

Aside from that, thank you again, and I have been working on the latest table; it's taken me 5 years to develop the idea and bring it into reality.
When I said "fluctuates between 1& 2" earlier, the table is that other factor. I really want to see this thing built.
And it's not like 5 straight years of development. It's like a couple months worth of work... you know how passion projects go.
Anyway I'll share a screenshot of the doo-hickey. aka the brain of the system. This is a section analysis/a cutaway of it, so you can see it better. At the bottom is a planetary gearset I designed, and the big thing above it is a specialized crankshaft designed to act against wires that will suspend 6 pistons, going up and down, around the perimeter of the table. It's not done yet.. just a sneak peak.

The reason she wasn't fixed at that point was because she was literally nursing the kittens she just had. Suffice to say, that was one horny cat and got knocked right back up.
The rest of the females we've encountered, we do take them in, but mind you it's not free, so we can't fix everyone. Strays, I mean.
Yes, they do poop in the yard, which lessens the load on the boxes inside. But yeah that just means cleaning the yard too. We don't have grass, so the yard is mostly dirt to begin with.

I would never recommend this life. I honestly feel like this life chose me and I'm just the unique type of person to let it happen.
I will go to a party and will seek out any animals and hang out with them instead of the people.
I've gone to complete strangers' houses, and I will make friends with the cat...and the owner will make it a point to state "wow, my cat doesn't like anyone, but he likes you".
My depression hits hard sometimes, and my cats fluctuate between the #1 & 2 reasons for deciding to keep going. That's really the most honest reason as to why I have them. Sorry if that made anyone uncomfortable.
You sound like a good person and kind soul, and I hope I didn't come across like I was harping on you at all.

I just hope that with that many cats there isn't a dangerous hoarding situation going down at the same time for your health too.
I can relate with seeking out animals more than people at times, heck was up north this weekend and even pspsps'd and said hi to a few cats on that walk.
I do prefer dogs, but any animal gets my respect, and care if it needs it. I just dislike having to pick up after other animals within my spaces.
I try to go on walks before 6AM with the doggo because it's still too hot any other time, and the few old ladies that feed cats and by proxy 50+ pigeons just irks me is all.

Oh and you already know this, but this is a mostly dead forum, in a thread that is literally about anything.
If you can't vent here, then what's the point. People here venting and just trying to enjoy old shitboxes are talk common interests to bring the joy.

So you have 2 cats, you have 3 litter boxes, one for each, one neutral space.
You're at least 10 litter boxes short, and one bad day away from norovirus taking hold of all of the humans.
    Kidding, sorta, be safe brother.

I don't mind cats, and I've met many I like, and the ones with jobs that serve a purpose I'm all for, but you're kinda describing my worst nightmare.
I learned that if I ever purchase rock/granite for landscaping it has to be of the 3/4 inch variety or larger.
Even half inch, the neighborhood cats think the entire front yard is their litter box.
All them cat momma's need to be fixed, it's sad hearing kitten screaming for their mom when it is 120 degrees and they are essentially being baked alive.
I've saved a few litters over the years and it just upsets me when people don't get their pets fixed, especially their outdoor cats.
