So going to a local county website to see what is "allowed", and for LA county it states you can: "Take a walk, ride your bike, hike, jog and be in nature for exercise — just keep at least six feet between you and others in the community. "

So is that not up to date? I hear Newsom and other officials are frustrated that many flocked to the beaches as I did yesterday, though it was rather deserted where we went as it's not easy access.

C'mon governments, get your shit together and update your documents if you wish people to do something...

The point is that masses of people "flocked to the beaches" and werent distancing themselves from each other. They give you leeway and then when everyone ruins that, they will do things like shut the beaches down

Just before noon the Governor in MD ordered all "nonessential" businesses to close effective 5PM today. It's now 2PM and we still don't have a real handle on what is meant by that or how/if businesses may continue to function. We are only currently sure that food/fuel/financial/govt/medical facilities can remain open, but those were designated essential last week or earlier.

FFS. a list would have been handy.

People in CA are not alone in confusion over government edicts.

        Edit:

Wouldn't you know, post about it and a list appears. Too bad that list exempts almost everything from closing. Based on a first read it looks like almost nothing has been ordered to close. WTF, stuff like this is idiotic.

At least I can swing by Lowes tonight.

Yeah that's what happened here in Florida. They didn't close the beaches down because as long as they aren't crowded they're not a likely place for transmission, then the stupid zoomer spring breakers who were already flocking to florida beaches and making painfully cringe inducing media appearances made the news and the ensuing PR disaster prompted the closure of the beaches.

In the Bay area there was some confusion on what would be closed in terms of parks. Apparently some people got tickets for parking at them but they revoked the tickets surprisingly. Took a day or two for everything to be clear. I personally haven't been to those parks yet but I do keep up with my running on a local paved trail. I haven't lived here long but this weekend was the most crowded I've seen that trail. Unless you're passing a group of people (mainly couples or parents with children), the distance thing wasn't difficult.

I saw 52,650 Varg's roaming the beach when passing by in the full containment breech vehicle. You millennials are nuts. :p

Kidding aside, this is a time to rejoice being a one-man-band, but OTOH, wondering what happens when back logs are up to date.

Observations from MD: road traffic volume is way down, maybe 1/3 normal; urgent need home repair stuff is doing well, nice to haves are not being scheduled; the indy auto shops were busy last week but not great now, tool guys say dealers are dead; public spaces are seeing slightly below normal use; commercial repairs are continuing as per normal.

I biked to Ocean Beach in San Diego after work today, the CA State Beach parking lot was closed so no driving in. However people were allowed full access to walk and bike the paths to the sand for fishing and surfing.

Navy Mercy ship got escorted out of SD Bay by two tug boats after lunch today, it went north.

Yes. Plenty of indys around here will probably not make it unless they can get assistance. This following on what was an abnormally slow winter for this area is just awful.

Fewer independents means shorter lifespans for used cars, which means used cars get more expensive and the only ones to profit are probably the dealers/big mfrs.

The numbers on small businesses are daunting right now. Many operate on such slim profit margins that shutting down for a month wipes them out.

Lets see what this $2 Trillion dollars will do... whoopsies getting into the P&R topics! hah

The thing we should take away is now is the time to support those who support us more than ever. Ive been communicating with Forced Firebird, just placed an order with Bluntech and this should be a reminder that this can hit VERY close to home if we arent careful and smart about where we spend our nickels and dimes
