I don't have clients w turbos tho, actual engine failure is never the issue. its the all the little things that mechanically total them.

Honestly I love them. First gen facelift. Probably go for an S or GTS - I know the early Turbos can have bore scoring issues, and I think it's fixed in the later ones, but the V8 is more than enough power.

They're supposedly very overbuilt. I'd want all the offroady options including the air suspension, but I don't know how capable they truly are offroad - I don't think they have much suspension travel (at least with springs and not air)

From what I've read, the NA V8 block has a different casting process than the Turbo V8 block, and this is believed to be the cause of more bore scoring in the NA engine vs the Turbo. So some people think the turbo is a more reliable engine. I would definitely want the air suspension, which I heard is relatively reliable.

Honestly, any of the automatic V8 options would be plenty of fun. And an NA car probably makes more sense from a gas milage perspective. (but that's thinking like a poor)

These grab handles on the center console made me chuckle. This thing is offroad certified. I would never touch a cayenne... but that is just because I am a cheap ass Honda boy at heart.

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiit, that makes it even easier! Somehow my wife isn't totally opposed to this idea, although I think she may be somewhat uninformed about the subject.

If I'm going to get one of these, I'd rather a Porshe over a VW or Audi. Also, no fucking way would I touch a v10 Touareg. I'd rather a cool wagon, but a fun AMG or S70R seem to be about the same price or more. Also, this is going to get street parked in south philly, so a 10 to 20 foot car is plenty fine.

Are the v8 Cayennes really that unreliable? It seems like coils and plugs at regular intervals, water pipes in the valley pan (and starter if the pipes are leaking), water pumps at regular intervals, coolant expansion tank when it weeps, and some T-fitting on the turbo cars. I'm sure anything can happen, and a $1k alternator sucks, but it's also not that car off from the $600 water pump in my f30. Again, I would only pay for parts because my time to work on it is worthless.

A friend of mine had an older Cayenne. The alternator went out, water cooled deal. A new one was over $1,000, and it was a huge pain to replace. The engine bay is so crowded for a large vehicle, and that was non-turbo.
